Article Processing Charges reimburse the publisher of the journal for the costs associated with publishing and replace the “classic” model of a subscription of journal. These costs include, for example, the costs of review procedures, printing color images and others. APC amounts can vary depending on the scope or prestige of the journal and can range from hundreds to thousands of EUR / USD. The author should always be informed whether the publisher is requesting payment for APC.
Open journals published by universities, professional societies, state research authorities often do not charge this fee or pay it from membership fees.
